An estuary forms the transition between rivers and the sea. Mangroves also occupy two different environments – they grow only on the coasts, with their roots in a mix of salt and fresh water. Fish and other aquatic species make their homes in the roots, and the branches provide an environment for monkeys. These two characteristics of this area make for a fascinating kayaking trip.

You’ll see many more species of birds and plants as you make your way through the island’s canals. The professional guide on your tour will help you spot different species of elusive animals.

Traveler Comments

So this trip is why we use Anywhere. You book the BEST tour guides. Being with Franklin was like being in a continuing education class at home BUT FUN. He knew so much and we learned a great deal.

- GRETCHEN S, DEC 2021

Our guide, Franklin, was outstanding. He was very knowledgeable about the local trees, crabs, wildlife and the small channels. He was patient and high energy. I think the personality and energy of the guide really makes the difference for a trip and I was happy we had him as our guide. I would certainly recommend this to tour to anyone.

- KATRICE Y, DEC 2018

This was a fun experience, as most of us had never kayaked before. Our guide was skilled, knowledgable, and guided us through the often narrow channels in the mangroves. He also pointed out wildlife and talked about the mangrove 'forests' along the way. Towards the end of our trip, it started to rain/pour, and we got soaked! But it was actually very refreshing, and we were thankful that we got wet from the rain, rather than from falling out of our kayaks! ¡Pura Vida!
