You’ll get picked up at low tide, and taken to the boat that will transport you to the surf spot. First, you’ll learn basic paddling techniques, and then swiftly progress to taking control of the surfboard.

Eventually, you’ll get to catch unbroken waves. Your instructor will also give you advice about picking the best wave possible. If you grasp these elements of surfing quickly enough, you can move on to learn some surfing maneuvers.

Depending on the size of your group, you'll take your tour on one of the three following boats:

Raccoon is the smallest of the boats, with a 25-foot (7.6-m) hull and a 200 horsepower engine. 5 passengers can comfortably fit on this boat, as well as fishing rods, surfboards, and the rest of the equipment. The seats are cushioned and the Racoon has a stereo system.

La Guapa has a 28-foot (8.5-m) hull and a 150 horsepower engine. It has cushioned bench seats and a stereo system. This boat can comfortably fit around 7 people.

La Charanga is also 28 feet (8.5 km) long, with a walk-around layout. There is a shaded area on the deck and a tower with a shaded seat for passengers that want to get a better look at the scenery. La Charanga also has a ladder to make it easy to get in and out of the water. You can listen to music on the stereo system, and rinse off using the onboard fresh water shower. This boat is ideal for a trip with up to 8 people.

Traveler Comments

This was one of the best experiences we had. Loved the "Go South" folks on La Guapa.

Surfing at Witch’s Rock is for fairly advanced surfers who are ready to experience some of the best waves in Costa Rica. The hollow waves crashing on either side of this rocky formation have a reputation for being consistent and powerful. They break over a sandy bottom.
