Caño Island Tour-

Caño Island Tour-

This tour leaves departs from Drake Bay at 7:00 AM and includes two dives off of Caño Island. Your guide will take you to some of the most popular dive sites in the area, where you can see a ton of pelagic fish as well as manta rays. Divers treasure this site because it’s so beautifully preserved – no one is allowed to fish or collect shells in a 3-mile radius surrounding the island.

The boat ride to the dives sites takes close to an hour, and comes with the chance to see whales and dolphins, depending on the season. Initially, you’ll arrive at Caño Island, and do your first dive right near the shore. There’s a break on Caño Island in between dives, and at the conclusion of the tour you’ll return to the dock for lunch.

The dives take place at a depth of 30 to 120 feet (10 to 40 m). Look out for jacks, parrotfish, barracudas, and several different species of shark, including reef sharks and hammerheads. Manta rays travel in large schools, and if you’re lucky, you’ll get to see this breathtaking sight.

You can choose from sights that range from beginner to intermediate skill level.

Barco Hundido (Sunken Ship)

This is a beginner’s level dive site where you can get to a depth of 50 to 70 feet (15 to 20 m), in a zone where rocky formations surround the remains of a sunken ship. The water here is calm, making it ideal for divers who want to concentrate on underwater observation. You can expect to see sharks, mantas, and sizable schools of fish, including colorful parrotfish.

Bajo del Diablo (Devil’s Pinnacle)

This is a more challenging dive for intermediate divers, taking you to a depth of 45 to 130 feet (15 to 40 m). Besides deeper water, this point also comes with a stronger current. Besides the schools of fish and moray eels, you might even see bull sharks at the deeper depths. Fish here often travel in large schools, another aspect that makes this an excellent diving destination.

Paraíso (Paradise)

Visit this spot for the chance to see a herd of 20 to 30 sharks, at a depth of just 60 feet (20 m). It’s also common to see enormous schools of fish in the area.
