You can expect to see several exciting butterfly species, and your guide will provide you with a microscope to get a closer look at their wings. The Butterfly Farm provides a haven for morphos, the blue-winged beauty of the tropics. Keep your eyes peeled for the eye painted on the wings of the caligos — the pattern on their wings is meant to trick predators into believing they’re looking at an owl. You may also see a few different species of heliconius butterflies, whose wing patterns also imitate predators’ fur.

After you explore the main enclosure, you’ll continue the farm’s laboratory where you’ll participate in three stages of the breeding process. First, you’ll place pupas into the cocoon box. Next, you’ll carefully transport new butterflies into quarantine, and finally, catch the young butterflies and escort them to the main enclosure.

Toward the end of the tour you’ll take a walk down the ranch’s dazzling trails. This area is home to around 140 species of bird and 4 species of monkey. Some of the birds you’re most likely to see include toucans, parrots, parakeets, hummingbirds.
